Dear Homeowners,
We have been informed that the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) plans on starting the long awaited Chinden reconstruction project in the next week or two. This phase of the project will consist of widening Chinden to two lanes in each direction from the Eagle Road intersection to the Locust Grove intersection. According to ITD, current vehicle traffic capacity should not be impacted during the construction u2013 they will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction throughout the project. However, the project will be a major traffic inconvenience during the several months it will take to complete.
Due to concerns that drivers may utilize Colchester and Oakhampton as ‘unofficial’ detours during the construction, the HOA Board reached out to the Ada County Highway District (ACHD). ACHD has agreed to conduct a study of the pre-construction traffic volume and speeds on these neighborhood roads. If ACHD later determines there are significant increases in traffic volumes or speeders due to drivers using these roads to avoid Chinden between Eagle Road and Locust Grove, ACHD will look at what measures can be done to minimize impacts. Options may include installing multiple temporary 4-way stops along Colchester and Oakhampton and/or increased Eagle Police presence to discourage their use as unofficial detours.
