As reported in the Idaho Statesman, even with the recent light rain Friday morning (May 23), the level of the Boise River, which has been flowing very high in recent days, dropped to its lowest level in more than a week.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the river at the Glenwood Road Bridge measuring station was flowing between 6,200 and 6,400 cubic feet per second. That’s well below the 7,000 cfs level that water managers say is flood stage.
Although the water has receded a bit, several sections of the Greenbelt bike path from Garden City to Boise remain closed because of standing water on the pathway. And there’s still standing water on some normally dry sections adjacent to the Banbury Golf Course, however none are affecting course play.
Cooler weather in the mountains has slowed the melt of snowpack into tributaries that feed the three main reservoirs above Boise.
